....passes on natural immunity to whatever cold virus your baby is suffering from. However, if this is not possible I have sourced the best natural decongestants for you and your baby.
To all my friends here at Halos N Horns I have prepared a sneak preview of this recent TIPS trial. I hope our Testers recommendations will help minimise any distress to your little darlings when they are suffering from blocked noses:
Natural decongestants 2008
The nose and upper respiratory tract
Tiny hairs (called nasal cilia) inside the nose transport mucus and debris to the back of the throat where it is automatically swallowed or coughed up. The nose warms, moistens and filters the air your baby breathes, acting as the first line of defence. This helps to control the levels of bacteria, viruses, pollen, smoke particles or potentially damaging pollutants. When the levels are too high colds, coughs or allergic reactions can happen. Your baby may sneeze, have a runny or a blocked -up nose. Very young babies breathe through their mouth. This can make it even more difficult for them to breathe when they have a cold. It will be necessary to use artificial methods of warming, cleaning and filtering the air until the tiny hairs inside the nose are able to do this again.
These artificial methods include:
o aspiration of secretions using simple devices (involving gentle manual sucking) o humidifying the air either with steam or a warm shower (cool air humidifying works well too) o using room vaporizers o keeping your baby upright to help the flow of secretions o inhalation of decongestants o cleansing the nose with a saline solution that has the same concentration as your baby's natural secretions.
Safety first
The decongestants you will be testing are designed to help treat minor congestion
You should your doctor immediately if:
-your baby's breathing becomes laboured -their respirations are unusually rapid -their temperature is above 40°C -coughing is interrupting your baby's sleep -they are crying and will not settle
o Check each product for ingredients your baby may be allergic to. o Only use one inhalation treatment at a time o If you use a room humidifier, remember to clean them thoroughly after use to avoid adding bacteria to the room next time you use it o Follow your instincts. If you are concerned contact your doctor
The following six awards have been allocated:
o Best of the best - Snufflebabe Vapour Rub o Best Innovative - Baby Nose Clear® Aspirator o Best Budget - Olbas Oil for Children o Highly Commended - Baby Nose Clear® Massage Oil, Baby Nose Clear® Room Vapour and Sterimar Sea Spray
